5 Promising Initiatives by Young People in the Capital


This post includes the post promising initiatives/Organization formed by Young People in the capital. These are as follows - 

1)ABC Campaign was started in February 2012 as a drive to teach the children of construction workers in Jamia by Jamia students(New Delhi). The program was supported by Social Service Club, JMI in collaboration with the NGO Pravah .The campaign started with an orientation program attended by 40 volunteers most of whom were students of Jamia. The volunteers began by teaching the workers of Jamia Central Canteen and the children of the construction workers who lived beside the then under construction Jamia polytechnic building. Each volunteer devoted 1 or 2 hours per week to teach and involve the children in activity based learning in the evenings. The program was carried out successfully for several months before it was paused for some time in 2013.The members of the ABC Campaign have now decided to re-launch the program in a new and better way in the year 2013 and has emerged as a sustainable intervention.
2)16 December Kranti is a youth led campaign formed after the brutal gang rape on 16th of December 2012.  Their approach is best summed up in their own slogan - "16 December Kranti” which is not associated with any political party/NGO. It is a peoples platform have been to protest continuously and everyday  for justice since 24th December at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi, India. the various activities undertaken by 16 December Kranti during the last year. The demands of the campaign includes - All the rapists in Damini case should be hanged till death, Death penalty in ALL "Rape and Acid Attack" cases, No mercy petition in "Rape and Acid Attack" cases, No juvenile must be granted immunity of JJA (Juvenile Justice Act) and must be tried as an adult if he is arrested in Rape or Acid Attack case, Fast track courts should be established on all levels i.e. District Courts, High Courts and Supreme Court, who will decide the pending Rape and Acid Attack cases in 3 months & new cases in 6 months, CCTV cameras with voice recording must be installed in all the police stations and all courts, FIR should be centralized in all police stations across India, immediately, Marital rape must be included in the ambit of rape,  If it has been proved that a police personnel delay/refused to register an F.I.R or contemplating the documents than s/he must be terminated.
3)TALENT Delhi  is a group of young and dynamic people who are working in the field of Performing Arts, Health, Environment, Education, Technology and Research to provide an opportunity to the Youth, Women, and Children belonging to Lower Socio-Economic Backgrounds from the walled city of Old Delhi. The founders formed the group in 1998, starting off with small performances. TALENT has expanded its repertoire to include the revival of Qissa-Goi, an ancient form of storytelling native to Delhi.TALENT STANDS FOR:
TEAM: A group of people working in order to ameliorate their surroundings, taking partnering with other community members and entities that share similar ways of thinking.
ASSOCIATION: To trickle down the values and beliefs, building relationships, and coming together for a good cause by means of Gali Mohella and basti clubs.
LEARNING EDUCATION: To utilize both apathetic and harmonious experiences for carrying out formal and non-formal education through learning with fun activities thus driving them from darkness to light.
NATURAL THEATRE: To bring out obscure talent of an individual and sustaining his or her culture, tradition, religion, and heritage by natural exposition of his or her life role.
4)V and Dharaji - a group of young people originally formed for spreading awareness about Dharaji and nearby villages under submergence in Madhya Pradesh. The group comprised of students from Delhi University, Jamia Millia Islamia and IIT. The Objectives of the group were
  1.      To spread awareness about issues faced by the communities living in Dharaji and Its nearby villages
  2. ·    Making an effort in putting Dharaji on the Google Map and enhancing its visibility in the process
  3. ·    Documenting the stories of Dharaji and supporting Narmada Bachao Andolan (Save the Narmada Movement)

The activities of the group comprise of - An exposure visit to Dharaji, Clean drive at Jantar Mantar and  Narmada Soul Call - An event organized to spread awareness about Dharaji among young people from Delhi and was supported by Narmada Bachao Andolan, British Council, IIT, NSS and Pravah. 



5)Voice of Narmada is an initiative based in Delhi to voice the plight of over million people displaced by the dams on Narmada.The overall aim of the intervention is to start a Delhi chapter of Narmada Bachao Andolan in New Delhi. The objectives of intervention are as follows 
  
  1. Encourage involvement of youth towards Narmada Bachao Andolan, thereby sensitizing youth towards Environment and Human Rights Issue 
  2. Organize events in Delhi parallel to those conducted by Narmada Bachao Andolan (Save the Narmada Movement)
  3. Holding Seminars, Talks, Discussion and similar events to spread general awareness about the issue 
The planned activities of Voice of Narmada includes - Exposure visit to Narmada Bachao Andolan, Peaceful protests in the capital, collaborated efforts with Miranda House development Cell etc.
